Curling Leaves On Hydrangea

//Curling Leaves On Hydrangea

There are a few reasons that hydrangea leaves can curl like this – you can think about which one is more likely for your plant, but fungus isn’t one of them so you can stop using any fungicide. 1. Most common cause is a sucking insect such as aphids or lacebug feeding under the leaves when the foliage is young. This damages the cells early in the life of the leaf so that as the leaves open they are distorted. Spray underneath of foliage with insecticidal soap if you see tiny insects on the underside of leaves. 2. Herbicide damage. If an herbicide such as weed killer has been applied around the plant or on a lawn surrounding the plant this can cause what you’re seeing. Stop using weed killers on gardens and lawns. This includes pre-emergent products as well as broad-leaf weed killers. Water deeply to flush these out of the soil around hydrangeas. 3. Virus – least likely but possible. Usually with a virus you’ll also see yellowing of foliage not just the curling. There is no cure for a virus, but as we say, this is the least likely cause.

    my hydrangea has this problem. It’s happening on the newly emerged leaves on one plant and parts of another one that are next to it. I don’t see any bugs so I assume it’s possible that it was caused by a pre-emergent. Will it recovered? Or should I put it out if it’s misery?

    I think i forgot to water my hydrangea and then may have watered it too much. It was beautiful and vibrant looking and now the 8 blooms have wilted and turned brown. And the full grown leaves on bottom are curling and getting brittle on the outer edges. No brown leaves. I bought it at Sam’s about a month ago and it looked so beautiful and healthy! Shall I plant it in fresh soil?

    Mature Hydrangea has curling leaves. All leaves, not just new. Exact hydrangea next to it is perfectly fine.
    No sign at all of aphids. No brown leaves. No pesticides uses anywhere near.
    Not dry or overwatered Help!

    My hydrangea srarted to get a few sticky, curled and distorted leaves. I take them off the plant as soon as I see them. The plant has lots of large healthy leaves. I find the best thing is to take off any discoloured leaves and discard them properly in a yard waste bag. I had the same problem last year and was able to keep large healthy plants by removing affected leaves and checking the plant every few days.
